The Marvelettes were an American girl group that achieved popularity in the early to mid-1960s. They consisted of schoolmates Gladys Horton, Katherine Anderson, Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart (now Cowart Motley), and Georgia Dobbins, who was replaced by Wanda Young prior to the group signing their first deal.
11. Juni 2022 · Juanita Cowart left in 1963 due to the stresses associated with touring and Georgeanna Tillman left in 1965 because of complications with sickle cell and lupus. Wanda Rogers took over as lead vocalist for the now trio of Rogers, Horton and Anderson in 1965.

Starting out 1961 as a quintet in rural Inkster, Michigan, the Marvelettes were leads Gladys Horton and Georgia Dobbins with Georgeanna Tillman, Juanita Cowart, and Katherine Anderson. Not confident in their singing abilities they called themselves the Casinyets which stood for can't sing yet.
9. Sept. 2018 · Juanita Cowart was one of the original members of the Marvelettes, an all-girl group on Motown records. She left the group in 1963 due to an anxiety breakdown and later pursued a solo career.
She wants to form a group to take part in the school’s annual talent contest, and recruits Katherine Anderson, Wyanetta (aka Juanita) Cowart and Georgeanna Tillman, and then Georgia Dobbins. They jokingly call themselves the Casinyets (as in “can’t sing yet”)
