In November 1982, the Virgin Prunes released their debut studio album, ...If I Die, I Die (produced by Colin Newman of Wire), as well as the double 10" EP Hérésie, a French box set. Commissioned by Yann Farcy after seeing them perform at the Rex Club in Paris , Hérésie was based on a loose examination of insanity.
Heresie (1982) – Virgin Prunes. This album was commissioned by Yann Farcy of the Invitation au Suicide label, who invited the Virgin Prunes to create a record based on their personal exploration of insanity and what it might sound like. It was originally released in a limited-edition box set and came out only a few weeks after If I Die, I Die.
Hérésie is a double 10" extended play box set by the Irish post-punk band Virgin Prunes. It was released in November 1982 by L'Invitation Au Suicide, which had commissioned the band to create a work dealing with the concept of insanity. It was released simultaneously with the band's debut studio album, ...If I Die, I Die.

On “Hérésie” the band offer a wonderful counter-point to their dark experimental music by also including “Down The Memory Lane” a parody of a traditional Irish sing-a-long that provides a stark contrast to the heavier tones of tracks like “Rhetoric”, which prior to being edited for release, weighed in at a colossal 28 minutes.
