24. Juli 2013 · Gene Gunnels: Strawberry Friends Forever. Gene Gunnels was born in Anderson, S.C. on July 4, 1949. He is the drummer of the 1960s psychedelic rock group of Strawberry Alarm Clock. Gene picked up coronet in junior high.
The group originally named Thee Sixpence initially consisted of Ed King (lead guitar, vocals), Michael Luciano , Lee Freeman (rhythm guitar, harmonica, vocals), Gary Lovetro (bass), Steve Rabe (guitar, vocals), and Gene Gunnels .
The Strawberry Alarm Clock came to fame in the swinging psychedelic scene of the late 1960s, but don’t call them an oldies act. The band continues to write and record vibrant new music, while adding new powerful new elements to its classic songbook.
SAC preps album, seeks fan support. Creators of five studio albums, the Strawberry Alarm Clock are looking to make it an even half dozen. And they need fans’ help to do it. The longtime psychedelic rockers are in the studio and are “about halfway through the recording process,” bassist George Bunnell says on the band’s new GoFundMe page.
