Jesse Root Grant (January 23, 1794 – June 29, 1873) was an American farmer, tanner and successful leather merchant who owned tanneries and leather goods shops in several different states throughout his adult life.

Biography. The father of U.S. President Grant, Jesse Root Grant was born 23 Jan 1794 at Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He was the second child of Noah Delano Grant by his second wife Rachel (Miller) Kelly. He moved with his family to Ohio at a young age and served apprenticeships at farms and tanneries during his youth.
