Auf der Suche nach der Besetzung für die geplante neue Quartett-Formation behielt Mayall Mick Taylor, den Gitarristen, mit dem er am längsten zusammengearbeitet hatte. Zu ihnen gesellten sich die Musiker Stephen Thompson und Colin Allen.
John Mayall sings and plays harmonica, organ and guitar on the album. The other band members are a young Mick Taylor (guitar), Colin Allen (drums) and Stephen Thompson (bass). The guitarist Peter Green is featured on the track "First Time Alone".

Mick Taylor gründete 1965 zusammen mit dem späteren Uriah-Heep-Mitglied Ken Hensley die Band The Gods. Zu den weiteren Musikern gehörten Greg Lake und John Glascock. Taylor verließ die Band und nahm 1967 ein Angebot von John Mayall an, in dessen Band The Bluesbreakers als Nachfolger von Peter Greeneinzusteigen.

März 2014 · Indeed, Mayall dispersed the entire brass section for Blues from Laurel Canyon, and instead chose the solid but relatively limited backing of Mick Taylor (guitar), Colin Allen (drums), and Stephen Thompson (bass). Instantly, it is apparent that John Mayall hasn't lost his touch with the blues.
