25. März 2019 · Dunedin musician, manager and promoter, Barry Blackler, has enjoyed one of the most interesting careers in the local music business. But if you read all of the hundreds of articles and books about Dunedin and New Zealand music, you would have trouble finding his name.
Initially a five-piece band, Sheehan sacked all original Starlings members other than drummer and fellow New Zealander Barry Blackler and recruited Northampton-born bass guitarist Matt Parkin. The band were likened to The Jesus and Mary Chain, and supported Curve on their tour of the UK and Ireland in 1991.

The Jesus and Mary Chain are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid, who are the two founders and only consistent members of the band since its formation.
5. März 2022 · Barry Blackler, a drummer who has played with The Starlings and The Jesus and Mary Chain, first met Malcolm at high school in Dunedin. When the three men started working together on a music project, originally with the idea it would be weekends-only, Malcolm knew he had bowel cancer.
