8. Nov. 2016 · Eanswitha was allegedly an embroideress from Hereford (England), who was granted 200 acres of farmland for the period of her life. The grant was made by Denebeorht (Deneberht, Denbert), Bishop of Worcester (consecrated in c. 799, died 822) on the condition that she renewed, scoured (washed) and from time to time added to the garments of the priests and ministers who served in the cathedral church.
She is considered a Pre-Congregation saint, recognized for her exceptional holiness and her significant contributions to the establishment of religious life in England. Saint Eanswith, also known as Eanswida, Eanswide, Eanswitha, Eanswyth, and Eanswythe, was born into the nobility as the grand-daughter of King Ethelbert of Kent.
