    Dave Kelly is the man in charge of the case and what turns out to be a difficult and complicated hunt for Rhys’ killer. He is determined to get to the bottom of it, even promising Rhys’ parents that he will find their son’s killer.     Keenan plays Rhys’ mother Melanie, who unsurprisingly finds it difficult to come to terms with her son’s death. The Irish actress played Nina Pickering in Being Human, and has also appeared in Doctor Who, Taggart and Doctors.

    O’Byrne plays Rhys’ father, who is more pragmatic in his approach despite being grief-stricken by his son’s death. He was nominated for an Emmy for his role in Mildred Pierce and won a Tony Award for his performance in a 2004 production of Frozen.

    This is Beyga’s first ever TV role. He comes from Liverpool, and was born not long before Rhys was killed.

    DCI Guinness works alongside DS Kelly in the murder hunt. Walters is best known for Ragged and Buried. He also played Mad Twatter in Skins and appeared in an episode of Band of Brothers.

    Pat Gallan puts pressure on Kelly for a fast conviction, with the expectancy of Liverpool and the nation weighing on the police force. Powell is best known for Last Christmas and Vanity Fair.

    Rowan plays Rhys’ killer Mercer, who is sentenced to life in prison. This is Rowan’s first major role, but he went on to appear in Playing Field and North Pier.

    Moody is associate of Mercer’s who is bullied into hiding the gun used to kill Rhys. This is Moran’s first TV role.

    Olssen’s bedroom is used by Mercer and the gang to orchestrate the cover-up of Rhys’ murder. This is also Smith’s first TV role.

    Yates is questioned by police but released without charge due to lack of evidence. Nelson-Joyce is also known for roles in Cilla, Mount Pleasant and Shameless.
