James Verlin Kimsey (September 15, 1939 – March 1, 2016) was the co-founder of AOL. He was the first chairman of the company and its CEO until 1995. Although Kimsey is best known for having helped to create AOL, he also spearheaded many other business, military and philanthropic endeavors.

1. März 2016 · NEW YORK (AP) — Jim Kimsey, the co-founder of Web pioneer AOL, has died of cancer at age 76. He died Tuesday morning in his home in McLean, Virginia, said his son, Mark Kimsey. In the early 1980s, Kimsey, a Vietnam veteran, was a Washington, D.C.-area restaurateur.
Jim Kimsey, who died in 2016, was the co-founder of the internet pioneer AOL and also a philanthropist who worked to identify the missing and protect refugees. He supported Steve Case, who led AOL to success, and served as a board member of Refugees International and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.
