History - A Force for Good. On 1 July 2011, Tony Tyler succeeded Giovanni Bisignani as IATA’s Director General and CEO. Tyler immediately focused on creating partnerships across the industry that would help aviation on its path to a profitable, sustainable future.
31. Aug. 2018 · Former IATA director general and CEO, Tony Tyler will join the Qantas board as a non-executive director, subject to shareholder approval. Qantas chairman, Leigh Clifford announced the move, saying Tyler will bring significant experience in commercial aviation as well as overseas markets when he formally joins the board in October.
Tony Tyler, CEO of Cathay Pacific, has been selected as the new Director General and CEO of IATA, becoming the first Director General from an Asian airline. Tyler's extensive knowledge of Asia is expected to help IATA take advantage of opportunities in the region, which is considered the industry's largest market.
