Bernard Lee "Pretty" Purdie (born June 11, 1939) is an American drummer, and an influential R&B, soul and funk musician. He is known for his precise musical time-keeping [2] and his signature use of triplets against a half-time backbeat: the "Purdie Shuffle ."
Purdie gilt als einflussreicher und innovativer Vertreter des Funk und ist bekannt für einen „rolling“ Shuffle Beat, den er den Purdie shuffle nennt. Zwei Beispiele sind auf Steely Dans Home at Last und Babylon Sisters zu hören. Er gilt auch als einer der Erfinder des Acid-Jazz-Genre.
