Hoar graduated from Harvard College in 1882 and Harvard Law School in 1884. While at Harvard he sat as the model for the head of the John Harvard statue which now sits in Harvard Yard . In 1885 he was admitted to the bar of Middlesex County and commenced practicing law in Concord, Massachusetts .
When the Review was founded in 1887, the Harvard Law School had about 200 students and five or six faculty members. The third-year class numbered no more than sixty-five or seventy students. Of them, fifteen were members of the original editorial board of the Law Review. What a group they were! J.

Isaac Parker and the Founding of Harvard Law School. On April 17, 1816, in his Harvard Hall inaugural speech as the first Royall Professor of Law, Judge Isaac Parker made an early suggestion of the establishment of what would become Harvard Law School.
