The École de cavalerie is a French military training establishment at Saumur in Western France. Originally set up to train the cavalry of the French Army, it now trains the troops of France's Arme blindée et cavalerie ( Armoured Cavalry Arm) in reconnaissance and armoured warfare.
The United States Army Cavalry School was part of a series of training programs and centers for its horse mounted troops or cavalry branch. History. In 1838, a Cavalry School of Practice was established at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, which in time also became the Army's recruiting center for new mounted recruits.
The site was used by the German army since 1937 when the cavalry school moved from Hannover, under the name Heeres Reit- und Fahrschule und Kavallerieschule Krampnitz (English: Army Riding and Driving School and Cavalry School).

While the function of the Cavalry School had diminished, limited training continued through the late 1850s. The bustle of activity at Carlisle as a training center and recruiting depot progressed as the storm clouds of war loomed over the country. During the "Secession Winter" following the election of Abraham Lincoln, orders to the Barracks changed the destination of the incoming recruits.
