Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev (27 April [O.S. 15 April] 1891 – 5 March 1953) was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor who later worked in the Soviet Union. As the creator of acknowledged masterpieces across numerous music genres, he is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century.

Biographie. 1891 – 23. April: Sergei Sergejewitsch Prokofieffwird auf dem Landgut Sontsowska im Gouvernement Jekaterinoslaw/Rußland geboren. 1904-1914 – Nach Abschluss des Gymnasiums studiert ProkofieffMusik am St. Petersburger Konservatorium. ab 1908 – Prokofiefftritt als Pianist auf.
As his third score for the Ballets Russes, Prokofiev composed Le pas d'acier in 1927, a work about the Russian Revolution and the machine age. The fourth work, Le Fils Prodigue, followed in 1929. In 1932, Prokofiev was commissioned to compose the music for the film Lieutenant Kishe.
