11. Nov. 2014 · Herb Jeffries died of heart failure at the age of 100 in West Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, leaving his fifth wife, Sarah Lee “Savannah” Shippen, and five children.
Today Jeffries is respected and remembered as a pioneer who broke down rusted-shut racial doors in Hollywood and ultimately displayed a positive image as a black actor on celluloid. In 1979, Jeffries was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame.
