Carlos Wesley " Don " Byas (October 21, 1913 – August 24, 1972) [1] was an American jazz tenor saxophonist, associated with swing and bebop. He played with Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Art Blakey, and Dizzy Gillespie, among others, and also led his own band. He lived in Europe for the last 26 years of his life.

Jan. 2003 · This four disc set, Don Byas: Complete American Small Group Recordings, documents Byas’ recordings as a leader prior to his emigration, with one disc documenting his work as a sideman in a variety of bands. Although he was later to record extensively in Europe, Byas should be established as a major tenor saxophonist based on this four disc set alone.

This contains many of the very first Parker recordings, and a welth of previously unreleased material. Quite indispensable for real Parker's fans. This has been repressed/ripped as The Charlie Parker Story (disc 2).
