Leeds Modern School was a school in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. [1] History. Leeds Modern School was founded on 14 July 1845 in Rossington Street as the Mathematical and Commercial School. This building in the centre of Leeds became council offices after the school moved to a site at Lawnswood in 1931.

The school was founded in 1972 and had its first comprehensive intake in 1974. Its predecessors were the Leeds Modern School, a boys' grammar school (founded 1845) attended by Alan Bennett, and Lawnswood High School for Girls, a girls' grammar school (founded 1854), which moved to the current Lawnswood site in 1932.

26. Juli 2022 · Here are 11 Leeds schools – listed alphabetically – which are no longer with us. Some were reduced to rubble while some are still standing although they have been repurposed. Some closed because their buildings were no longer fit for purpose. Others closed for more controversial reasons.
Lawnswood High School and Leeds Modern School were combined into one large, mixed upper school, Lawnswood School, which operated from 1972. At the time of the merger, the houses were renamed after the Heads of House. They were Thompson, Rowe, Webber and Simpson.
