Ludovico de' Medici, also known as Giovanni delle Bande Nere (6 April 1498 – 30 November 1526) was an Italian condottiero. He is known for leading the Black Bands and serving valiantly in military combat under his third cousins, Pope Leo X and Pope Clement VII, in the War of Urbino and the War of the League of Cognac, respectively.
Die Giovanni delle Bande Nere war ein Leichter Kreuzer der Alberto-di-Giussano-Klasse der Königlich Italienischen Marine. Sie wurde am 1. April 1942 vom britischen U-Boot Urge vor Stromboli versenkt. Das Schiff wurde nach Giovanni dalle Bande Nere aus dem Haus Medici, einem italienischen Condottiere, benannt.

Giovanni delle Bande Nere was an Italian light cruiser of the Giussano class, which served in the Regia Marina during World War II. She was named after the eponymous 16th-century condottiero and member of the Medici family.
Giovanni 'delle Bande Nere' de' Medici. Son of Giovanni de' Medici ('il Popolano') and his wife Caterina Sforza, ruler of Forlì. He was originally christened Ludovico, but when his father died six months after his birth, Caterina rechristened her son Giovanni.
In 1526 he entered the army of the League of Cognac against the emperor but was mortally wounded in battle near Mantua on November 25 and died five days later. His bande nere, or “black bands,” were named from the black banners that they began to carry in mourning for Leo X.
