17. Juni 2019 · Saxophonist Joe Ford has released just one studio album as a leader. Which is surprising considering how superb the recording is. The album is Today's Nights, recorded in New York for Spain's Blue Moon label in March 1993. The line up features Joe Ford (as,sop), Kenny Kirkland (p), Charles Fambrough (b) and Jeff “Tain" Watts (d).
In fact, it wasn't until 1993 that Ford made his solo recording debut with Today's Night, a competent, post-bop-oriented effort that employs Fambrough along with two of Wynton Marsalis ' former sidemen: drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts and the late pianist Kenny Kirkland.

When Branford Marsalis assumed the high-visibility role of bandleader for NBC TV's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Kirkland became the band's pianist. In 1991, he released his debut as a leader, Kenny Kirkland, on GRP Records.
