    Hank Jones was an accomplished swing performer, but was also fascinated by the intricacies of bebop, recording with Coleman Hawkins’ swing/bop ensemble in 1946 and 1947. In 1947 Jones was hired to accompany Ella Fitzgerald on Norman Granz’s Jazz at the Philharmonic tours in the US and Europe and played with her until 1953.
