Born in Glasgow, Ure was the daughter of civil engineer Colin McGregor Ure and Edith Swinburne.
Mary Ure was a Scottish actress who starred in films such as Look Back in Anger, Sons and Lovers, and Where Eagles Dare. She was married to Robert Shaw and died of an accidental overdose in 1975 at age 42.
