Nelbert Chouinard (born Nelbertina Murphy; 1879–1969) was an American artist who founded the Chouinard Arts Institute (1921) in Los Angeles, California.
Chouinard Art Institute was founded in 1921 in downtown Los Angeles by Nelbert Murphy Chouinard, whose goal was to establish an important art school on the West Coast. The reputation of the institution grew through the 1930s and 1940s.
