Moses the Black (Greek: Μωϋσῆς ὁ Αἰθίοψ, romanized: Mōüsês ho Aithíops, Arabic: موسى, Coptic: Ⲙⲟⲥⲉⲥ; 330 – 405), also known as Moses the Strong, Moses the Robber, and Moses the Ethiopian, was an ascetic monk and priest in Egypt in the fourth century AD, and a Desert Father.
Life of St. Moses the Black. Saint Moses the Black lived during the fourth century in Egypt. He was an Ethiopian, and he was black of skin and therefore called “Murin” (meaning “like an Ethiopian”). In his youth he was the slave of an important man, but after he committed a murder, his master banished him, and he joined a band of robbers.
Black Moses is the fifth studio album by American soul musician Isaac Hayes. It is a double album released on Stax Records ' Enterprise label in 1971. The follow-up to Hayes' successful soundtrack for Shaft (also a double album), Black Moses features Hayes' version of The Jackson 5 's hit single "Never Can Say Goodbye".
Moses the Black, sometimes called the Ethiopian, was a slave of a government official in Egypt who dismissed him for theft and suspected murder. He became the leader of a gang of bandits who roamed the Nile Valley spreading terror and violence. He was a large, imposing figure.
