Minor Threat was an American hardcore punk band, formed in 1980 in Washington, D.C., by vocalist Ian MacKaye and drummer Jeff Nelson. MacKaye and Nelson had played in several other bands together, and recruited bassist Brian Baker and guitarist Lyle Preslar to form Minor Threat.
Minor Threat. When their former band, The Teen Idles, broke up, Ian MacKaye and Jeff Nelson decided to form a new band with Ian on vocals. In 1980, they started playing with Lyle Preslar, who sang for the Extorts and wanted to switch to guitar.
Minor Threat. Influential American hardcore punk band from Washington, D.C. formed in 1980 and disbanded in 1983. Their song "Straight Edge" gave birth to the straight edge movement, which emphasized a lifestyle without alcohol and drugs.
