Hunt trat 1808 in die Londoner Akademie ein, nachdem er bei John Varley Unterricht genossen hatte, und stellte anfangs Ölgemälde, ab 1814 aber meist Aquarelle aus. 1827 wurde er Mitglied der Society of Painters in Water Colours.
