With frequent collaborator Gram Parsons, Hillman was a key figure in the development of country rock, defining the genre through his work with the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas and the country-rock group the Desert Rose Band. Chris Hillman (* 4. Dezember 1944 in Los Angeles) ist ein US-amerikanischer Musiker, der als einer der wichtigsten Wegbereiter des Country-Rock gilt. Der breiten Öffentlichkeit ist er vor allem als Bassist der Band The Byrds bekannt.
Formed by Hillman, Herb Pedersen, and John Jorgenson in 1986 (joined by Jay Dee Maness, Bill Bryson, and Steve Duncan) this eponymous group would become Hillman’s most commercially successful project since the Byrds.
Chris Hillman war zwar noch offiziell Mitglied von Manassas, die Gruppe war jedoch in Auflösung begriffen. In den letzten Tagen der McGuinn-Columbia-Byrds ersetzte er bei einigen noch zu erledigenden Konzerten den zuvor entlassenen Skip Battin an der Bassgitarre.
