Jean de Florette (French pronunciation: [ʒɑ̃ də flɔʁɛt]) is a 1986 period drama film directed by Claude Berri. It was followed by Manon des sources, released the same year. Both are the adaptation of Marcel Pagnol’s 1963 two-part novel The Water of the Hills.
Im Dorf wird er deshalb „Jean von Florette“ genannt. Zur gleichen Zeit offenbart der vom Wehrdienst in sein Heimatdorf zurückgekehrte Ugolin Soubeyran seinem Onkel César, genannt „le Papet“ ( provenzalisch für Großvater), dass er mit einer Nelkenaufzucht zu Reichtum kommen möchte.
