Carl Perkins. Carl Lee Perkins (* 9. April 1932 in Tiptonville, Tennessee, USA; † 19. Januar 1998 in Jackson, Tennessee) war ein amerikanischer Country-Musiker, Sänger, Gitarrist und Songwriter. Er gilt als Pionier des Rockabilly und wurde 1956 mit der ersten Fassung des von ihm geschriebenen Blue Suede Shoes bekannt.

Just over two minutes of hip-slapping rhythm, driven by stop-go verses and the fiery treble of Perkins’s guitar, it was a mongrel mix of blues, country and pop.
