The previously volatile band line-up settled in 1989 with Lee's brother, Neil Mavers on drums, and Peter "Cammy" Cammell as lead guitarist. The group then entered London's Eden Studios in December 1989 to again record their debut album with Simple Minds and U2 producer Steve Lillywhite .

The La's is the debut and only studio album by English rock band the La's, released on 1 October 1990 by Go! Discs. It includes "There She Goes", the group's biggest hit, and "Timeless Melody". A deluxe edition of The La's was released on 7 April 2008.
30. Aug. 2023 · The La’s, as the following list hopefully conveys, are mysterious and weird, and for so many more reasons than rumours, drugs, and monomania. Like the snake in Mavers’ memorable description, their songs coil in circles rather than travel in a linear direction.
Mavers returned home to Merseyside and departed from the public eye appearing only for a handful of reunion shows and acoustic spots in resultant decades; his story is a fable of the levels of perfectionism and expectation we set on ourselves and how it can cause conflict to breaking point.
