Michael Gordon „Mike“ Oldfield (* 15. Mai 1953 in Reading, England) ist ein britischer Multiinstrumentalist, Komponist und Liedtexter. In seiner Musik vermischt er Elemente aus Rock, Weltmusik und Klassik. Sein Durchbruch und seine berühmteste Komposition erfolgte 1973 mit dem Album Tubular Bells.
Earth Moving markierte 1989 das Ende der Phase, in der Oldfield (wie von Virgin Records gefordert) auf Kommerz setzte und gut auszukoppelnde Gesangsstücke schrieb. Diese Phase begann 1979 und umfasste die Alben Platinum, QE2, Five Miles Out, Crises, Discovery und Islands.
Er ist außerdem auf Mike Oldfields Alben Islands (1987) und Earth Moving (1989) zu hören (ersteres wurde von GTR-Produzent und Geoff Downes produziert). 2002 erschien Bacons zweites Solo-Album From The Banks Of The River Irwell.
