Jacob Kolloman Freud (1 April 1815 – 23 October 1896) was the father of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. Born in town of Tysmenytsia in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria (now in Ukraine), and from a Hasidic background though himself an enlightened Jew of the Haskalah, he mainly earned his living as a wool merchant.
Als Sigmund geboren wurde, war Jakob demnach bereits Großvater. Im Alter von 21 Jahren gebar Amalia ihr erstes Kind und die Eltern einigten sich auf den Namen Sigismund Schlomo Freud. Der Name Schlomo sollte an den Großvater erinnern, welcher drei Monate vor Sigmunds Geburt verstarb.
Sigmund Freuds Vater Jacob Freud kam aus dem heutigen Tysmenyzja, Galizien, heute Ukraine, ins heutige Příbor, Tschechien, damals Kaisertum Österreich. [1] Seine Mutter kam aus Brody und wuchs in Odessa auf. Jacob zog mit seinen Kindern später über Leipzig nach Wien.
Sigmund Freud war Sohn von Jakob Kallomon Freud (1815 – 1896), einem jüdischen Handlungsreisenden aus Tysmenitz (heutige Westukraine) und Amalia Malka Nathanson (1835 – 1930). Zusammen hatten sie 8 Kinder.
A tall man, who according to his son resembled Garibaldi, Jakob was a calm and respected patriarch. An observant Jew close to the Haskala movement, he appears to have been more traditional than Freud claimed.
The family of Sigmund Freud, the pioneer of psychoanalysis, lived in Austria and Germany until the 1930s before emigrating to England, Canada, and the United States. Several of Freud's descendants and relatives have become well known in different fields.
