Bereits als Fünfzehnjähriger spielte Faddis in Dizzy Gillespies Combo beim Jazz Workshop in San Francisco. 1971 wurde er Solist in Lionel Hamptons Band in New York City und spielte in den Montagssessions des Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra.
