Robinson was born on February 18, 1940, to Leroy Edward Robinson and Helen Elizabeth Zimmerman-Robinson in Columbus, Ohio. [2] .

Her art grows from her belief in the African concept of Sankofa, an understanding of the past so that we can learn from its richness, joys and mistakes.

Aminah Robinson is represented in museums and galleries, including the Columbus Museum of Art, Akron Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati. She passed away in May 2015.
