Nils Anton Alfhild Asther (17 January 1897 – 19 October 1981) was a Swedish actor active in Hollywood from 1926 to the mid-1950s, known as "the male Greta Garbo". Between 1916 and 1963 he appeared in over seventy feature films, sixteen of which were produced in the silent era.
Nils Asther was a Danish-Swedish actor who starred in silent and sound films in Europe and Hollywood. He worked with directors such as Mauritz Stiller, Victor Sjöström, and Michael Curtiz, and co-starred with Greta Garbo, Pola Negri, and Joan Crawford.

In his autobiography, Nils Asther wrote about a weekend trip he took with Greta to Lake Arrowhead, northeast of Los Angeles (ca. late 1928). Arrowhead is a man-made lake, but the mountain setting disguises its origin (a great dam prevents the annual spring thaw from being lost to the desert below).
