Biography. Although he began as a footballer, Janusz Kusociński took up athletics in 1928 and joined the Sarmata Club. In 1929 he won Polish titles in the 5,000 and cross-country, and after a year of military service, won the 1,500, 5,000, and cross-country in 1930 and 1931, adding another Polish title in the 800 in 1932.
