James Randel "Randy" Matson (born March 5, 1945) is an American track and field athlete who mostly competed in the shot put. Matson won a silver medal at the 1964 and a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics.
Randy Matson (born March 5, 1945, Kilgore, Texas, U.S.) is an American shot-putter who, in 1965, became the first man to put the shot more than 21 m, with a distance of 21.52 m (70.6 ft). Matson’s weight-throwing ability was recognized when he was in the eighth grade by the high school coach of Pampa, Texas, who went on to train him.
