Jorge Lavelli (11 November 1932 – 9 October 2023) was an Argentine-born French theatre and opera director. He staged first plays and then opera, and in both fields, he was open to contemporary pieces without neglecting the classic repertoire.

Born in Buenos Aires in 1932, Jorge Lavelli was 28 years old when he obtained a scholarship from the National Fund of Arts of Argentina which allows him to come and study theater in Paris, where he enrolled in the contemporary history of French theatre by following the courses of Charles Dullin and Jacques Lecoq.
