Anästhesie ( altgriechisch ἀναισθησία anaisthesía „Empfindungslosigkeit“) ist in der Medizin ein Zustand der Empfindungslosigkeit, meist zum Zweck einer operativen oder diagnostischen Maßnahme, und zugleich das auch als Betäubung bezeichnete medizinische Verfahren, um diesen herbeizuführen.
