Desire (Swedish: Begär) is a 1946 Swedish drama film directed by and starring Edvin Adolphson and also featuring Gunn Wållgren, Carl Deurell and Sven Magnusson. It was shot at the Centrumateljéerna Studios in Stockholm. The film's sets were designed by the art director Arthur Spjuth.
Overview. Paola, a Milan call girl, returns home to her village in the Abruzzi mountains in an attempt to go straight. Rejected by her father, blackmailed by a former lover, and lusted after by her brother-in-law, she turns to her beloved sister for support.
Put on hold when the fascist regime fell, Desire was revived in 1946 by Marcello Pagliero with nary a railway worker in sight. Instead, the released film is about a small town girl named Paola (Elli Parvo) who tries to go home after spending two years in Rome, at least one of them as a sex worker.
