Jurij is a 10 year’s old child without sight and without a childhood, a prodigy violinist. Since his mother’s death, his father Mr K., has raised him in a cult of music, closed in a room without any contact with the outside world. He is destined to become the perfect violinist, the pure executor.

Der Film spielt in Russland vor und nach der Oktoberrevolution. Jurij Schiwagos Vater vertraut sein Vermögen dem mächtigen Rechtsanwalt Victor Komarovsky an, der es verspekuliert. Deswegen begeht der Vater vor Jurijs Augen Selbstmord. Danach lebt Jurij als Waise bei Pflegeeltern.
