  2. Ramón " Mongo " Santamaría Rodríguez (April 7, 1917 – February 1, 2003) was a Cuban percussionist and bandleader who spent most of his career in the United States. Primarily a conga drummer, Santamaría was a leading figure in the pachanga and boogaloo dance crazes of the 1960s.

  3. Working with Perez Prado in Mexico, in New York with Tito Puente, and Cal Tjader in San Francisco, Mongo Santamaria was one of the initiators of Afro-Cuban music to the United States. Santamaria fused the music of his native Cuba with R&B and jazz to create a distinct sound that would be popular with audiences around the world.
