Patricia Janet Scotland, Baroness Scotland of Asthal, PC, KC (born 19 August 1955), is a British diplomat, barrister and politician, serving as the sixth secretary-general of the Commonwealth of Nations.
Joined the House of Lords in 1997 as Baroness Scotland of Asthal going on to serve as a minister in the Foreign Office, Home Office and Lord Chancellor’s Department. Undertook major reform of the criminal justice system, including the introduction of the Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act.
After completing her studies, Baroness Scotland embarked on a remarkable legal career, establishing herself as a prominent barrister. In 1991, she became the youngest woman to be appointed a Queen's Counsel, a prestigious recognition of her exceptional legal expertise and advocacy skills.
