Francis Williams Sargent (July 29, 1915 – October 22, 1998) was an American politician who served as the 64th governor of Massachusetts from 1969 to 1975. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the 63rd lieutenant governor of Massachusetts from 1967 to 1971.

28. Okt. 1998 · Francis W. Sargent, an MIT graduate who returned to his alma mater as a senior lecturer after serving as governor of Massachusetts from 1969-74, died Thursday of heart failure at his home in Dover. He was 83 years old.
He assumed the state’s highest office in 1969, when he was lieutenant governor and then-Gov. John Volpe left to become a Nixon cabinet member. In 1970, he won the office in his own right when he defeated Boston Mayor Kevin White. Four years later, he lost to Democrat Michael S. Dukakis.
