Hugh Culling Eardley Childers (25 June 1827 – 29 January 1896) was a British Liberal statesman of the nineteenth century. He is perhaps best known for his reform efforts at the Admiralty and the War Office.

Contents. Childers Reforms. The Childers Reforms of 1881 reorganised the infantry regiments of the British Army. The reforms were done by Secretary of State for War Hugh Childers during 1881, and were a continuation of the earlier Cardwell Reforms .

Hugh Culling Eardley Childers (1827-1896), politician, was born on 25 June 1827 in London, son of Rev. Eardley Childers and his wife Maria Charlotte, née Smith, both descendants of Sampson Gideon (1699-1762) whose financial services to the government in the wars with France had been rewarded by a baronetcy to his son.
