Wilhelmus Beekman was a Dutch immigrant who came to New Amsterdam in 1647 and became a prominent figure in the colony. He served as treasurer, lieutenant, vice-director, sheriff, and alderman, and built a farm and a house in New York.

His ancestors were residents of the country of the Rhine, and a branch of the family were Barons of Belgium.
