William Morris Meredith (June 8, 1799 – August 17, 1873) was an American lawyer and politician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served as the United States Secretary of the Treasury, during President Zachary Taylor 's Administration.
From 1834 to 1839, he was president of the Select Council of Philadelphia, also attending the 1837 state constitutional convention as a delegate. In 1840, after campaigning hard for presidential candidate William Henry Harrison, Meredith was named U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

William Morris Meredith Jr. (January 9, 1919 – May 30, 2007) was an American poet and educator. He was Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress from 1978 to 1980, [1] and the recipient of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry .
