William Wilberforce (24 August 1759 – 29 July 1833) was a British politician, a philanthropist, and a leader of the movement to abolish the slave trade. A native of Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, he began his political career in 1780, and became an independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Yorkshire (1784–1812).
Wilberforce's role in the abolition of the slave trade and slavery in the British Empire marked a turning point in human history. His perseverance in the face of opposition played a crucial role in transforming public opinion and mobilizing political will towards these monumental legislative changes.

William Wilberforce wurde am 24. Au-gust 1759 als einziger Sohn des wohl-habenden Kaufmanns Robert Wilber-force und seiner Frau Elizabeth in Hull (Grafschaft Yorkshire) geboren.
