Syed Mir Hassan was an Indian Ahl-e-Hadith scholar of the Qur'an, Hadith, Sufism, and the Arabic language. He was a professor of Arabic at Scotch Mission College in Sialkot and was awarded the title of Shams al-’Ulama’ ("Sun of the Scholars") by the British Crown.

14. Aug. 2021 · As a child, Iqbal studied at a local school or madrassa in Sialkot headed by Syed Mir Hassan who was also an Arabic teacher at Sialkot Scotch Mission School where Hassan persuaded Iqbal’s father to allow him to study.
Iqbal began his education in a Maktab (Religious School). He was, however, fortunate to have a teacher in the person of Moulvi Syed Mir Hassan (1844-1929) who was an excellent teacher and a great scholar of Persian and Arabic. Syed Mir Hassan was quick to recognize Iqbal’s talent.
