Die Askanier sind ein altsächsisches Hochadelsgeschlecht, das seit dem 11. Jahrhundert namentlich historisch nachweisbar ist und dessen Stammburgen Aschersleben, Ballenstedt, Bernburg und Anhalt sich im heutigen Sachsen-Anhalt befinden. Die Burg Anhalt liegt im Harz nordöstlich von Harzgerode und ist heute eine Ruine.
23. Okt. 2020 · Esico von Ballenstedt is the first named member of the Ascanier family. He appears nine times in contemporary documents between 1036 and 1059, however always only as Graf (comes Hesicho). Only in the 13th century is he called Esicus de Ballenstide by the Annalista Saxo.
