Johannes Georg Bednorz (German pronunciation: [ˈɡeːɔʁk ˈbɛdnɔʁt͡s] ⓘ; born 16 May 1950) is a German physicist who, together with K. Alex Müller, discovered high-temperature superconductivity in ceramics, for which they shared the 1987 Nobel Prize in Physics.
Der Mineraloge und Physiker Dr. Johannes Georg Bednorz ist ein waschechter Westfale. Er wurde in Neuenkirchen im Kreis Steinfurt geboren und nahm 1968 sein Chemie- und Mineralogie-Studium an der nahe gelegenen Universität Münster auf, Hauptfach Kristallographie.
Johannes “Georg” Bednorz was a fresh-faced earth sciences student in 1972 when he spent three months working at IBM’s research laboratory in Zurich. The summer break from undergraduate studies turned out to be an important inflection point. It’s when he met Alex Müller.

J. Georg Bednorz (born May 16, 1950, West Germany) is a German physicist who, along with Karl Alex Müller (q.v.), was awarded the 1987 Nobel Prize for Physics for their joint discovery of superconductivity in certain substances at temperatures higher than had previously been thought attainable.
